Community User Needs First Online Meetup on accessible forms
During Community User Needs First online meetups, community members and other participants exchange ideas and knowledge on user-centric governmental services based on examples in practice. The goal is to inspire each other and learn from each other with presentations on cases from members. This meetup will be about the redesign of forms for the HM Courts & Tribunals Service in England and Wales.
Programme
On Wednesday, November 12th, we’ll hear all about accessible forms designed for the HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). This service is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts in England and Wales, as well as tribunals across the United Kingdom.
HMCTS noticed that users do not request the adjustments they are eligible for. Thus, the organization started working on new designs to help increase the take-up. A part of this redesign came from user testing from Ros Boyes, Lead Interaction Designer, George Mitchell, Digital Content Strategist, and Molly Blackburn, User Inclusion Design Lead. They will share the forms and their learnings after the first year of using the new design. For instance, has the number of requests increased?

You’re welcome to share your questions with us prior to the event through the form or email.
About the team: Ros, George and Molly
“We’ve been working on creating an accessible, inclusive forms that every court and tribunal service will eventually use. Previously, people didn’t have a consistent way to request or manage support during their case and at hearings. The new form will allow users to ask for support through the online service and reduce the need to email and phone the offices. Support includes:
- ‘reasonable adjustments’ (such as adjustments for physical, learning, or mental conditions)
- ‘special arrangements’ (for people who are at risk of harm)
- language and interpretation
We hope to meat you online!”
